Meet the Future Homeowners

Fulga-Caburgan Family

“We need a home with more room and a place for the children to play where we can plant seeds for flowers and tomatoes etc.”

~ from Georgeta Fulga’s application letter

Georgeta and her son moved from Moldova to America and specifically to Asheville on November 10, 2010. During one of her trips back to Moldova she met her husband Ghenadie who, along with his two boys, later joined Georgeta and her son in Asheville. While they were happy to have their blended family together in one place, as a family of five living in a two-bedroom apartment it didn’t take long to realize they need a bigger place. On the advice of fellow Moldovans who happen to be Habitat homeowners they were encouraged to apply to purchase an affordable house through Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity. The boys are thrilled to be living in this country and, as one may suspect, they have had little trouble acclimating to their new country, but as growing boys they look forward to having their own rooms and space to play outside. As a full-time employee of Mills Manufacturing, Georgeta provides for the family while Ghenadie attends classes to learn the English language. For $40 more dollars a month than they currently pay in rent they will soon purchase a 4 bedroom/2 bathroom, energy efficient Habitat house in the McKinley neighborhood. In this home, Georgeta can finally have the garden she has been dreaming of and the family can say they are home!  The Fulga-Caburgan family house will be dually sponsored by the Land of the Sky Association of Realtors in honor of their 100th anniversary and the Rusty Pulliam Foundation.

About the Sponsor

The Land of the Sky Association of REALTORS® is celebrating their Centennial of serving this region and co-sponsoring this house is part of their year-long celebration. Many REALTORS® from different local real estate companies are spending days volunteering on the house, in addition to the financial support provided by the Association. With 1300+ members,  the organization is one of the largest REALTOR® associations in North Carolina. LOTSAR’s mission is to enhance its members’ ability to exceed, to foster high ethical standards, and to promote private property rights.

Along with the Association of REALTORS®, Rusty Pulliam, a local REALTOR® and real estate developer, is co-sponsoring the house through his Foundation. This is Mr. Pulliam’s second house sponsorship with Asheville Area Habitat and we are thankful for this partnership.

Also, to offset the cost of purchasing and developing a lot, Habitat has sought out sponsors to “Adopt-a-Lot” for $10,000. This lot is generously sponsored by Asheville Fence.
