Meet the Future Homeowners
“I believe that this home would help me shift from surviving in Asheville, to thriving in this mountain city that I love and feel lucky to call home.”
~from Ethan’s application letter
Ethan is a longtime Asheville local who has always felt so lucky to get to call Asheville home.
Over the years, he has worked at several beloved local establishments while also going to
school full-time to earn his degree in Social Work. Balancing work, school, and the challenges of today’s rental market has required determination and resilience, especially while living in
housing conditions that often felt temporary and uncertain.
Like many longtime locals, Ethan has seen rental costs rise beyond what many working
residents can comfortably afford. Higher rent forced Ethan to compromise living standards and location. Needing to move further from Asheville to chase lower rent disconnected him from the city he loves and increased his transportation costs.
Through his partnership with Asheville Habitat, Ethan is now getting the opportunity to invest
in something lasting, a home of his own. Becoming a homeowner means he gets to inally call
himself a forever Asheville resident and build a stable future in the city he loves. With the
security of affordable homeownership, Ethan will be able to focus on pursuing a career in social work and giving back to the community that helped shape him.
