Meet the Future Homeowners

“My children have noticed I never fully unpack anywhere we have ever lived. A Habitat home would mean I can unpack, truly unpack my life and a space that could become our peace.”

~from Martha’s application letter

Martha spent a great deal of her time daydreaming as a child. She always imagined a life different from the one she had. At age 11, things became increasingly more unstable due to moving from place to place. Having moved thirty-five times, Martha desperately wants to plant roots and grow her life and finally have peace. So many times, Martha told herself, “This isn’t going to happen.” Yet after some self-reflection, she stopped telling herself “No” and began telling herself “Yes, yes it can happen.” Martha was determined to build a better life for herself and her family.

Living in temporary housing for so long prevented Martha from feeling secure and settled.
Uncertainty and continually rising rent caused ongoing stress and worry. To save money, she often had to consider housing farther from work, creating additional financial and transportation challenges.

A Habitat home will be the sanctuary Martha has been praying for her whole life. To her, a home means “peace within, peace of mind, just peace.” Being a homeowner is grounding and elevating all at the same time. Nothing would mean more than providing her family a safe and healthy environment, a true home where she can unpack for good.
