Meet the Future Homeowners
“Owning a Habitat home would mean everything to us. It would be our healing house-our forever home-a place where we can rebuild after loss, restore our sense of togetherness, and create new memories while continuing the traditions that matter most to our family.”
-From Soukanya’s application letter
For much of her life, Soukanya lived in survival mode. The heartbreaking loss of her daughter became the turning point that inspired her to choose a different path—one rooted in healing, stability, and intention. Forever changed as a family, Soukanya began setting goals and working toward a brighter future for herself and her children. Applying to Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity gave her renewed hope and the belief that a better future is possible.
Currently, Soukanya and her children live in a small two-bedroom house where limited space and the burden of high rent on a single income make daily life challenging. The financial strain and cramped living conditions create ongoing obstacles to stability and peace of mind.
For Soukanya, an Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity home would be more than just a house—it would be a place of healing. A safe and stable sanctuary where her family can create joyful memories, rebuild togetherness, and look ahead with hope. A Habitat home would create long-term financial stability and wellness, so her children can grow up with greater opportunities and a brighter future.
