Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity, an organization built on the generosity of others and volunteerism, is seeing more out of town volunteer groups than ever before thanks to Thrivent, with a record 16 teams scheduled to volunteer in Asheville this year.
Since 2005, Thrivent, a holistic financial services organization, and its clients have contributed more than $282 million and nearly 6.4 million volunteer hours to Habitat around the world. Here in Asheville, Thrivent volunteers are estimated to contribute 6,500 hours in 2026.
“We’ve had the privilege of welcoming hundreds of Thrivent volunteers to our build sites, and every team reminds me how powerful people can be when they come together to serve,” said Stephanie Wallace, Construction Volunteer Manager for Asheville Habitat. “Not only do these volunteers pour their energy and hearts into building affordable homes, but they also impact our local economy when they’re here.”
Each group spends a week building homes in Habitat’s New Heights neighborhood in West Asheville, and they participate in a dinner with families who are in the process of becoming Habitat homeowners. Trip participants also make time to enjoy local restaurants and breweries, visit places like The Biltmore Estate, and enjoy hikes on local trails.
“My heart is filled this week. What an incredible experience to be a part of,” James, a Thrivent volunteer, shared. “The chance to meet such an incredible group of people that are so passionate about serving others is so inspiring and makes me want to serve even more. Thank you so much for hosting such an impactful program. I am so grateful to be part of Habitat for Humanity and look forward to the next time.”
