ARCHR launches campaign to raise funds and awareness

Members of Asheville Regional Coalition for Home Repair (ARCHR) have been working collaboratively since Hurricane Helene to ensure impacted low-income homeowners receive the help they need to repair their storm-damaged homes.

ARCHR members include: Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity (also fiduciary agent), Poder Emma, Community Housing Coalition of Madison County, Land of Sky Regional Council, Asheville Buncombe Community Land Trust, and Community Action Opportunities.

Though 200+ families have received repairs, 400 have yet to be served.

More than $10M has been raised for ARCHR’s disaster repair work in Buncombe and Madison counties, but that is not enough to serve all homeowners who have applied. Focused now on raising just a portion of what is needed in totality, the Coalition is launching a summer fundraising campaign to raise $500,000 in 5 weeks, starting Monday, July 27. Coupled with a $500,000 leadership gift from Deerfield, ARCHR aims to have another $1 million to put towards its work.

Deerfield Check Presentation

“This spring, we challenged our residents to collectively donate $100,000 for ARCHR, and offered a 4:1 match from our Foundation,” said Michelle Wooley, Executive Director, of the Deerfield Charitable Foundation. “We were delighted when they responded quickly and generously, and we hope that our gift will inspire others to do the same!”

Andy Barnett, CEO of Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity added, “The spirit of collaboration is essential to long-term recovery. Deerfield’s commitment to keeping the ongoing need in front of the community and ARCHR’s accomplishments to-date reinforce the fact that this community is stronger together.”

As more time passes it becomes increasingly difficult to communicate just how extensive the need still is in Western North Carolina. This campaign aims to raise funds, and also awareness. Families are still living in unsafe and unhealthy situations, others are still displaced. With continued funding, ARCHR will be able to serve all families in waiting.
