Jessie, a radiant spirit, has spent her life trying to make the world around her more beautiful.  Starting out in Columbus, OH she cleaned up a little corner of her world creating what she thought was her own happy little bubble. But working hard and being a positive light didn’t make her immune to hard times.

Making it through the isolation of the pandemic was difficult, but when her home was broken into, her bubble popped. The beauty she made of her surroundings could not withstand the darkness that came from feeling unsafe in her own home. Based on the magical memories she had of a vacation to the Smoky Mountains, she picked up and moved to Asheville. While it gave her a fresh start, it was tarnished by high and constantly rising rent.

With the help of Asheville Habitat, she will soon be stepping into the sunshine. It’s more than a house – it’s stability, roots, and a canvas for the life she’s been patiently rebuilding. Beaming with pride, Jessie is already imagining flowers blooming in her front yard and the sense of belonging she will get from being a member of the Habitat community.
