Meet the Future Homeowner

“Owning a home through this program would allow me not only to stay in Asheville, but also to thrive here. It would give me stability, help me grow as a person, and allow me to focus on achieving the goals I am working towards.”
– From Wendell’s application letter

A lifelong resident of Asheville, Wendell has always called the mountains home.  Growing up here, he developed a deep love for the community, people, and beauty that makes Asheville so special.  Over the years, Wendell has worked hard to build a stable life – balancing work, family, and community – with a dream of one day owning a home of his own.

With the rising cost of living in Asheville, it has been difficult to find affordable housing without multiple roommates.  Wendell loves his city and wants to build his life here, but is constantly feeling at risk of being pushed out of the city he calls home.

Wendell has seen firsthand the positive impact Habitat has had on communities around him.  His best childhood friend completed the program and Wendell has watched him flourish, giving Wendell the inspiration to pursue the same opportunity.  For Wendell, partnering with Habitat for Humanity means realizing a life-long dream of owning his own home right here in Asheville, and gaining the ability to invest in his future and his community.
