Meet the Homeowner

“Through years of renting I have always wanted to own a home. My youngest daughter has never had her own room. I would love to make her dreams come true.”

~from Leesa Flowers’ application letter

Leesa Flowers has worked at Mission Hospital for 5 years, moving up and excelling in a variety of essential roles over the years. However, this mother of three has dreams that go beyond just her career.

“Although I have accomplished a lot working at Mission Hospital, a major life goal would be home ownership.”

As a mother and a caretaker at heart, Leesa hopes to be able to own a home for her youngest daughter. Despite working full-time, the limited options for affordable rentals in Asheville left them living in an overpriced, one-bedroom apartment. There, they shared a bedroom and were often left waiting on upgrades and repairs that never came.

Leesa’s mother then invited the two to come live with her in her two-bedroom apartment. While Leesa loves being close to her mother, she is ready to take the next steps toward her goal of homeownership, and most importantly, provide her daughter with a bedroom of her own.

“It would be a major accomplishment owning a home and hearing a little voice saying ‘my mommy did that’.”
