Erika moved to the United States from Mexico when she was 5 years old with both of her parents. At age 8, she moved from Atlanta to Asheville. She loves Asheville; it is her home and she has no intention of leaving.

The mountains have provided a sense of internal peace for Erika for many years, and now she is seeking housing stability to provide peace of mind. With rent on the rise and increasing demand in our housing market, she decided to attend one of Habitat’s information sessions. Erika was nervous to apply, yet she wanted to continue to work towards her peace of mind with housing stability and a place to call her own “home sweet home.”

By partnering with Habitat, Erika will be able to continue enjoying the mountains in Asheville. Housing stability, peace of mind, cookouts with family and friends, and a small garden is no longer a dream, it’s a reality.  Soon, she will have her own place to call “home sweet home.”

About the Sponsor

Erika has been approved for an affordable home in the Glenn Bridge community. Erika’s soon to be home is the 15th house sponsored by Asheville and Buncombe County Episcopal churches and the WNC Episcopal Diocese. The Adopt-a-Lot sponsorship is in loving memory of Sam Wheeler, a joyful spirit who lived life to the fullest.
