Joyce Gilman has seen her fair share of rentals in Asheville. For many years she lived in units that had not been properly repaired, resulting in safety issues from haphazard plumbing and wiring. Let’s not forget the ever-rising cost of rent in Asheville. Joyce was determined to find an alternative to substandard rentals and the rising cost of rent. Being familiar with the quality of the construction and Habitat’s investment in the community, she decided to apply.

Joyce believes in Habitat’s mission to provide affordable and safe housing. Owning a Habitat home will provide her with safety, stability, and the opportunity to be financially and emotionally secure.

Joyce has been approved to purchase a 1-bedroom/1-bath townhome in Habitat’s Glenn Bridge community. She looks forward to enjoying retirement, contributing to her community, starting a garden, and watching her dog play in the back yard.
