“I really want my family to find a home where we will be at peace.
Thank you for your organization, for your help to families like us,
and for making our children happy.”
~ from Petro Vykhovanets’ application letter
Petro and Olena Vykhovanets and their 4 children, moved to WNC almost 7 years ago and fell in love with Asheville. Originally from Ukraine, the family has faced enormous challenges and transitions, yet they remain united, resilient, and full of hope. Petro and Olena have worked hard to make the most of their life here, hoping to give their children the stability they were seeking.
This family of six is currently sharing limited space but big dreams in their 3-bedroom apartment. Despite crowded conditions for six, they continue to support one another and stay strong as a family. As the children grow older, the need for privacy, quiet places to study, and room to simply be kids has become more important than ever. Their current neighborhood has increasingly frequent safety concerns, and Petro and Olena’s greatest wish is to give their daughters a secure environment where they can thrive.
Through their partnership with Habitat, they have the opportunity to build a better future – one with stability, safety, and a home perfectly suited for their family’s needs. For Petro and Olena, homeownership represents more than a house, it symbolizes dignity, independence, and the promise of a brighter future for their children. They are ready and excited to partner with Habitat and start this new chapter in a home where they all will have room to grow.
