Born and raised in Ukraine, Olga Sheliah immigrated to the US in 2017. A tenacious single parent, driven by the desire to raise her child in an opportunity rich environment, Olga left her country for a new start in America.

Not knowing the language but determined to succeed, Olga completed the ELA course at AB Tech. It didn’t take long for her hard work to pay off.  Olga landed a job with Buncombe County Schools, providing an essential service as custodian of Charles D. Owen High school.

Olga’s services are needed now more than ever. In the midst of a global pandemic, the critical need for essential workers is amplified. Tasked with protecting educators and administrators from the threat of an invisible enemy, Olga is a super hero without the cape.

Habitat’s Homeownership program exists to serve everyday superheroes like Olga; indispensable workers who make too much to qualify for social services, but not enough to make ends meet.  Being centrally located, Habitat’s New Heights neighborhood is the ideal location for essential workforce homebuyers.
