Meet The Future Homeowner

Pete Finley

“Habitat has made it possible for me to become a homeowner and live the American Dream.  A home gives a person a sense of pride and achievement and that is what I hope happens.”

~ from Pete Finley’s application letter

Pete was born and raised in Asheville and is thrilled about the opportunity to own a Habitat for Humanity house. He is delighted about the prospect of moving into to a safe, permanent and affordable home of his own.

Pete works full-time for the Asheville Housing Authority as a maintenance technician. He currently lives in an aging studio apartment and is concerned about annual increases in his monthly rent. Already he feels his apartment has become unaffordable; further increases may make it unmanageable for him. The mortgage and escrow payments on his new energy-efficient Habitat house will be less than what he currently pays in rent, and he will save money on utilities, too.

About the Sponsor

Thrivent Builds Worldwide is part of a partnership between Thrivent Financial and Habitat for Humanity to help end poverty housing and deliver new solutions to help communities thrive. Asheville Area Habitat hosted Thrivent Builds Worldwide groups in May and June 2016. The groups bring substantial funding (enough to be a Raise the Roof Sponsor) as well as volunteers from around the country who work for a solid week on the jobsite!

Each home’s lot has a sponsor that helps to offset the cost of purchasing and developing the land for the home. An Adopt-a-Lot sponsor donates $10,000 and a challenge grant supports the remaining $5,000 needed for each lot. The Adopt-a-Lot sponsor for this home is Laura and David Bourne In Memory of Helene Pringle Shulz.
