Meet the Future Homeowners
“Owning a Habitat home would mean a better financial state, better state of mental health, and a safer environment for my daughter to grow up in.”
~from Belinda Grant’s application letter
At Habitat, we often hear people say their surroundings seemed adequate until they had a child. Then suddenly, they notice the hazards around them–as clear as they would a neon sign flashing the word danger, danger, danger. This is what happened to Belinda Grant. The day she brought her daughter home from the hospital, she lost the ability to look the other way.
As a microbiology lab tech for Genova Diagnostics, Belinda wears protective gear to provide a barrier between her and the microscopic contaminates she analyzes. Unfortunately, there is no uniform protection against crime. With drug deals and prostitution taking place out in the open, Belinda could not ignore the dangers her apartment presented to her child.
Looking to purchase a home, Belinda soon realized she could not afford to buy a home in Asheville’s high cost market. Then she remembered Habitat.Serving those who make enough to afford a monthly mortgage, but not enough to purchase a home through a traditional lender, Habitatbuilds homes, community, and hope.
About the Sponsor
