Meet the homeowner

“Having a comfortable, safe, and functional home is a crucial piece to a person’s wellbeing and success. I am so very thankful for this amazing opportunity!”

~from Brittany Moore’s application letter

Meet Brittany Moore, single mother and future Habitat homeowner. Brittany takes pride in her work as a CNA with Black Mountain Neurology. In working with the developmentally disabled, Brittany draws from her own experience in navigating through hardships when circumstances were beyond her control.

When Brittany’s son was three years old, his father made a series of bad choices that would alter their lives forever. Suddenly a single parent, Brittany had to figure out how to make it on her own.

Struggling to cover $1,300 rent, Brittany searched for a roommate. To no one’s surprise, having an active three year old proved to be a difficult selling point…to everyone except grandma. Brittany and her mom became roommates hoping that in time, Brittany would find an apartment she could afford on her own.

Having several friends who were Habitat homeowners, Brittany was surprised to learn that their monthly mortgage was half the going rent. Brittany applied and has been approved to purchase a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom townhouse in Candler. With Brittany settled, her mom will be able to step into the role of a typical grandma and move forward with her plans for retirement.
