Meet the Future Homeowners
“I am a hard worker and have done the best I can to provide for my family in spite of all the different demands that I juggle.”
–From Stephanie’s application letter
Future Habitat homeowner Stephanie Heindl is a New York native who moved to Asheville 27 years ago to be closer to her family. For over 25 years, Stephanie has worked in elder care, and is currently employed as a home health CNA. She loves that her work has allowed her to build close relationships with her patients over the years and gives her a schedule flexible enough to provide necessary medical care and support for her son. However, what it does not offer is a salary that would allow Stephanie to save for the future nor do more than just get by.
In her current apartment, Stephanie is cost burdened, paying well over 30% of her gross monthly income towards rent, leaving little room for medical expenses and other essentials, let alone the ability to save for a rainy day. With regular rent hikes, Stephanie worries about her future as a low-income renter. Seeking a permanent home and financial stability, Stephanie found her way to Habitat.
By partnering with Habitat, Stephanie will purchase a 2-bedroom home in West Asheville’s New Heights for herself and her son. Stephanie looks forward to being a part of a peaceful, neighborly community, and being able to save money while living in her Habitat home. Most of all, Stephanie tells Habitat that she looks forward to the comfort of knowing she has something to one day leave to her children, and the sense of pride that comes with having a home she can call her own.
