Meet the Future Homeowners

The Hensley Family

“I would like to raise my children in a safe and family-friendly neighborhood.”

~ Cynthia Hensley (future Habitat homeowner)

Cynthia (“Cindy”) Hensley has lived in Asheville since 1989 and is thrilled about the opportunity to own a Habitat for Humanity home. She is delighted about the prospect of moving from a substandard rental unit in public housing to a safe, permanent and affordable home of her own. She is the mother of two children, ages 12 and 14.

Currently, the Hensley family lives in an aging apartment that has limited accessibility for Cindy and her children. In addition, the area has recently seen an increase in criminal activity and she is concerned about her family’s safety.

About the Sponsor

For the 25th year, local Presbyterian and United Methodist churches unite to sponsor a house in Asheville. They stand out as the longest-standing partnerships with Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity. The Presbyterian and United Methodist Churches provide funds and volunteers who will work, in conjunction with the future homeowner, to build a safe and decent home in a grouping of four houses in Shiloh that Habitat refers to as “Creekside.”

We are grateful for their continued support and dedication to providing affordable homeownership opportunities to members of our community.
