The Moyski Family
“What I want most is to provide a place of sanctuary for my family. That is what a Habitat home offers me and my children.” ~ From Melania Moyski’s application letter
Melania Moyski is perseverance personified. There isn’t an obstacle large enough to stop Melania from achieving her dreams. While she approaches every challenge with poise and grace, you would be wrong to mistake this for a lack of toughness. Melania is a survivor and like most survivors, she has overcome a lot to get where she is today.
When Melania met the father of her children, they were still in high school. Being young and in love, she overlooked the demeaning comments and controlling behavior that are often the red flags of an abusive relationship. As their family grew so did the abuse. While Melania worked hard to make their house a home, the fresh paint and manicured landscaping only served to mask the emotional turmoil inside. When he threatened her life by putting a gun to her head, she decided she’s had enough. She and her children moved in with her mom and began the process of healing.
It turns out that all the abuse she suffered only served to make her stronger, and little by little, Melania got back to being herself. Working as a dog groomer at Canine Shear Heaven led her to a career doing something she loves. Her confidence had grown and she was ready for the next step- a home for her and her boys to call their own.
For the past few years she and her boys had been living with her mom and 2 of Melania’s nieces, in a 2 bedroom house. Her mom’s home provided shelter when they needed it most, but it was never meant to be a permanent solution. Melania applied for a home through Habitat and this is where her perseverance really came into play. It took 3 applications and 18 months to get everything she needed to qualify, but Melania remained steadfast and her determination paid off! She has been approved to purchase a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom house in Arden which will be called “Maccie’s Place”.
