Meet the Future Homeowner

Future Habitat Homeowner Lakritrice, aka Keisha, works as a security officer, where she is known as the person willing to help out with training new staff, picking up a shift, or going above and beyond with kindness and support. She has lived in Asheville since she was a teenager and, despite her can-do attitude, has struggled to find a home that meets her needs without sacrificing affordability. In her application, Keisha tells Habitat that she looks forward to the opportunity to break generational poverty through homeownership.

In her current subsidized rental, Keisha has had to sacrifice basic comforts that make a house a home, such as working air conditioning and a feeling of safety in her complex as she leaves to work night shifts. As a mother and grandmother, Keisha dreams of having a safe and comfortable home that can be a hub for family gatherings. Thanks to suggestions from her family, Keisha realized that through Habitat homeownership, she could not only live affordably in a safe community, but that she could also build stability and generational wealth, all in a place where her grandchildren can feel welcome and play outside.

By partnering with Habitat, Keisha will purchase a 2-bedroom townhome in New Heights, and gain the freedom that comes along with security. She looks forward to having a place she can “be proud to call home,” living in a family-friendly neighborhood, and the peace of mind that comes with affordability.

About the Sponsor

Keisha’s future home will be the 5th Legacy Builders House, a home funded with gifts made in memory of Habitat supporters including the estate of Timothy Dobbings. The Adopt-a-Lot sponsor is Paul & Judy Lerwick.
