Meet the Future Homeowners

“I can picture me and my kids and grandkids relaxing in the yard, planting flowers, and enjoying family time.”

-From Yvonne Fountain’s Application Letter

Meet Yvonne Fountain, mother of 6 grown children and 14 grandchildren, all of whom are very lucky to have this devoted matriarch in their lives. Yvonne works in the kitchen of Morrison Healthcare at Mission, where she clocks in before dawn to lend her skills to keep the patients and physicians fed. After work, she brings home her nourishing spirit to cook for her family and spend time with her grandkids.

Recently, Yvonne has assumed custody of her grandson, Akeem, in order to help her daughter recover from a car accident that badly injured one of her arms. But, stepping up to the task was no hardship for Yvonne, whose world is already centered on her family. Yvonne told Habitat, “It has always been my dream to own my own home…so I can have my own space, also so my grandkids can have a place to come spend time and not have to worry.”

Seeking to move into a safe, decent, affordable home in a family-friendly community led Yvonne straight to Habitat’s newest Neighborhood, New Heights. No longer will she have to worry about DIY repairs or her grandchildren playing in an unsafe neighborhood. Instead, she will enjoy living in a multi-generational community, where she can age in place with her family by her side.
