For years now, Sergio and Mayra have been searching for housing for their family that is affordable, safe, and stable. The demand for rental units has made it challenging to find affordable housing for their family of five that meets the criteria they are looking for. They began to fear that they might need to leave Asheville, their home for more than 20 years, to find what they need.

Asheville is more than just a place for them to live. It’s their home, a place where they have built memories with all of their extended family. Determined to find a way to put down permanent roots here, they not only searched for housing, but they worked on their finances so they would be in a position to partner with Habitat. They are thrilled to be purchasing a Habitat home, and they have three words for all applicants, “Don’t Give Up”.

The Gomez-Flores family has been approved to purchase a house in Habitat’s New Heights community in West Asheville. They have accomplished their goal of breaking the cycle of renting, providing their children with a home that is safe, spacious, and their own. The final icing on the cake is, is that they will be able to stay in Asheville and continue to make memories with all of their family.
