“I could deepen my roots in the Asheville community and grow old with grace, dignity, and community.”
~ from Jennifer’s application letter
Jennifer moved to WNC almost two decades ago and fell in love with Asheville. While she loves the area, she has juggled two and three jobs at a time to stay afloat due to the rising cost of rent. The high demand for rental units and the increase in short term rentals has also meant she has had to find roommates to share the cost. Sharing space for 14 years led to some lasting friendships, but it has also been difficult. It’s one thing to want roommates but needing them to survive is quite different.
Jennifer’s love for Asheville and dedication to homeownership brought her to Habitat where she worked on a Women Build House. The mission inspired her, and she learned that Habitat’s program is for individuals too, not just families. She did a deep dive to learn the qualifying criteria, spent time working on her finances, and then applied. Jennifer has been motivated for two years to accomplish her goal.
Her effort and dedication paid off and homeownership is within reach. Jennifer will soon have affordable housing and her own space. She is thrilled to be able to make Asheville, the place she loves, her forever home.
