Meet the Future Homeowner

“A Habitat home would be a much needed fresh start for me and my kids.”

~ From Michelle’s application letter

Michelle Gardner is an Asheville native and hard-working single mother. She recently began a successful career in manufacturing that supports her two youngest children, ages 14 and 16. From her employer’s glowing praise of Michelle, it’s clear that she works hard every day and her family is her driving force. In her application, Michelle expressed a determination to give her kids a better home than she was able to have while growing up.

Despite her professional growth and steady income, like so many locals, Michelle has been priced out of the housing market. As a result, the family has settled in a rental, where Michelle worries about the safety of her family. After multiple break-ins and other criminal activity in the neighborhood, Michelle began searching for ways to find a home that would be a sanctuary for her children to grow up with peace of mind.

After hearing about Habitat, Michelle decided to pursue homeownership, writing “this program would be the only way I could imagine ever owning my own home.” Now, Michelle is preparing to purchase a 3-bedroom home in family-friendly New Heights. As a soon-to-be first-time homeowner, Michelle is excited to finally have a place that her family can call their own, and she looks forward to the sense of accomplishment and pride homeownership will give her.
