About the Sponsor
“I would really enjoy being a part of an organization that helps individuals move towards a brighter future and works to create stable, healthy communities.”
– from Sairah’s application letter
Sairah Ansari relocated to Asheville to be closer to the support of her extended family. A single mother with a career as a counselor in the field of mental health, Sairah desired to build long-term financial stability for her son through homeownership. In the years since, she has navigated her way through unexpected out-of-pocket expenses, the COVID-19 pandemic, and soaring housing costs.
Despite dedicating hours each week to budgeting and financial planning, finding an affordable home has been a challenge for the family. As a result, they currently rent a crowded studio apartment with a kitchenette that does more to obstruct their day-to-day activities than it does to facilitate them. In addition to her son’s growing excitement for a home with space for the two of them, Sairah knows that he will soon need a room of his own. Inspired by her grandparents’ volunteer work with the organization, she submitted an application for Habitat homeownership.
Now, Sairah is partnering with Habitat to purchase a two-bedroom townhome in New Heights. She is excited to work alongside Habitat volunteers in building a new home for her and her son. “I think this is what my son and I need to get ahead after all the setbacks,” Sairah says, “Providing him with all of the support, resources, and opportunities he deserves in life is the most important thing to me.”
