Meet the Future Homeowner
“A glimpse of hope came when I saw my best friend and her family become Habitat homeowners. Watching her renewed my motivation to become a homeowner.”
~from Brittany Whitmire’s application letter
As a referral source, nothing beats current Habitat homeowners. Eager to share their experiences with friends and colleagues, they inspire others to see homeownership as viable option for themselves. “If they can do it…” is a common refrain among hopeful applicants, and the catalyst for inspiring Brittany Whitmire to take that first step.
Working for the Charles George VA Medical Center, Brittany has carved out a career for herself in Asheville’s tough job market. Seeing promise in Brittany’s abilities, her supervisor encouraged her to seek a promotion. In her letter of reference, her supervisor writes, “Brittany is very committed to her job with the VA…and I believe she will honor her commitment to Habitat, just as she honors her commitment to our veterans.”
That positive work ethic will come in handy! Showing the willingness to work hard supports Habitat’s motto of offering a hand-up instead of a handout. As a Habitat homebuyer, Brittany will have to complete 200 hours of sweat equity, while continuing to work full time and taking care of her family.
About the Sponsor
Brittany’s 2 bedroom/1bathroom home is made possible by long-time sponsors Bank of America and AvL Technologies. The lot her home sits on is sponsored by two donors, who wish to remain anonymous.
