Meet the Future Homeowners
“I feel that building a Habitat home, working hard and putting money towards a home that I will one day own, will be a great achievement in my life, and also in the lives of my children.”
~ from the Scott Family
When you think of a single parent, do you picture calm, cool and collected– or frazzled, agitated and distracted? Chances are you think of the latter, and with good reason. Being the sole provider, managing multiple schedules, and serving as both disciplinarian and nurturer is a stressful job. But Marquita Scott manages it with ease.
Raising two boys on her own- no problem. Managing the needs of an autistic child-what else have you got? Always poised, always temperate, Marquita defies the stereotype of the frazzled single parent no matter what the circumstance.
Calm and collected, her demeanor also serves her well in the line of work she has chosen. Marquita works for A New Hope Home Health Care where she provides aide to a disabled child and even goes to school with that child each day.
When Marquita learned that there had been a shooting in her neighborhood, she approached it like any other problem-remain calm and find a solution. The search for safe affordable housing led her to Habitat and the rest is history.
Marquita’s 3 bedroom/1.5 bath home will be the first of 12 homes built at Curry Court in Candler.
