“A Habitat home is exactly what my family and I have been praying for over the past three years… a place to call HOME.”

~ from Shaneise Hutchinson’s application letter

Shaneise is a modern day super woman. As a single mother of 4 managing two jobs and a 50 or more hour work week, one might expect to find a woman stretched to her limits, but that’s not Shaneise. Shaneise takes it all in stride. She manages her schedule and her household like a CEO of a Fortune 500 company; everyone knows their role, respects the boss, and the work gets done on time and under budget!

Having recently completed her CNA coursework, Shaneise plans to continue her education to become a respiratory therapist. In the meantime she works 40+ hours per week for Adecco and part-time at Mission as a Transport Tech. Working as hard as she does is challenging, but she is committed to giving her children the very best, even if it requires some sacrifice on her part.

And sacrifice she does.  Instead of applying for assistance to rent a larger apartment, she chose to show her children that she could make it on her own. While 5 people in a 2 bedroom apartment is not ideal. Shaneise made the decision to put safety and self-sufficiency above comfort and space.

That being said, it’s understandable why Shaneise was drawn to Habitat’s program of homeownership. The Habitat model of “a hand up, not a hand out” has given her the opportunity to provide a home for her family in a way that she can be proud of.  Soon the rest of the world will be proud too when she purchases her 4 bedroom/2 bathroom house in Arden.
