The Finley Family
The Finley Family
LaPorsia Finley and her two children are anxious to move from their unsafe neighborhood plagued with illegal activity. LaPorsia grew up in public housing and it was always her mother’s dream to move her family from that type of housing situation. Unfortunately, LaPorsia’s mother passed away before she could realize that dream, and LaPorsia found herself bounced from one sub-standard apartment to another.
LaPorsia is extremely motivated to improve her housing situation; she wants to show her children, and the niece she also cares for, what life can be like outside of public housing. Through Habitat’s homeownership program, she is doing just that. Though she could do what is easy and status-quo in her community, LaPorsia wants so much more for her family. She wants her children to see that their mom is a strong woman who will fight to get them what they deserve; safe, decent and affordable housing being one of those things.
LaPorsia has worked hard to get where she is today. After becoming pregnant as a teen, she returned to school and graduated from high school. In 1999, she got a job at Asheville City Pre-School, where she is still employed today.
LaPorsia is excited to be able to provide her family with stability, permanence, and a true home in a safe neighborhood.
