Women Build is a program of Habitat for Humanity International with one mission: to empower women to take action against substandard housing conditions. Women Build involves women in a collaborative and supportive effort to build simple, decent, healthy and affordable houses. Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity believes that women hold a solution in their hands to move children out of substandard housing – one family at a time.
The 2010 Women Build House is Asheville Area Habitat’s fifth Women Build.

The Searles Family
The Searles Family
Felicia Searles has two young daughters and is also the primary caretaker of two young cousins. The family currently lives in a cramped apartment and Felicia pays a disproportionate amount of her income towards rent.
Felicia has worked for the federal Head Start program since March 2003, and as a lead teacher for the past three years. She earned an associates degree in Early Childhood Education from AB-Tech and is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s from Western Carolina University.
Self-motivated to improve her family’s living situation, Felicia has worked extremely hard to become eligible to qualify. The Searles family has visited Habitat’s Woodland Court neighborhood and they are excited to soon call it home.
