Amelia Garcia and her children
The Garcia Family
Amelia Garcia and her family will live in the Woodland Court house sponsored by Wachovia, a Wells Fargo Company through the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation.
Ameila works for Community Action Opportunities as a Family Service Worker for the Head Start Program. She and her family have faced many challenges and overcome a troubled past. As part of moving forward, Amelia realized that she needed to go back to school to increase her education and thereby expand her employment options. She did just that and earned, with high honors, an Associate’s Degree in Human Services.
One of Amelia's daughters keeps asking “when are we going to live in a real house?” They have always lived in apartment complexes and currently reside in an unsafe neighborhood with documented drug activity, prostitution, and violence. Their family has moved often and her children have attended many different local schools in their short lives.
Amelia wants to build a foundation for her children and knows homeownership will offer a solid foundation. “I want them to have stability and a safe, family-friendly neighborhood where they can grow and play. No matter how long it takes, my ultimate goal in life is to provide a house to my children.”
With the help of Habitat and Wells Fargo Housing Foundation, Amelia will realize her next step in providing her family with a safe, decent and affordable home.
