The Alipa Family
The Alipa Family
Anton and Svetlana Alipa moved to Asheville three years ago from Ukraine. They have four daughters ages 1-4, including a set of twins. The family currently lives in a two bedroom apartment. The apartment is well kept, but quite overcrowded due to the family size. The children have little room and there is no play area in the complex.
One of the daughters is legally deaf, She recently had surgery in an attempt to grant her the ability to hear. For the surgery to be successful, she must go through intensive therapy sessions multiple times a week. Svetlana helps the child practice the exercises but it is extremely difficult to create the necessary quiet environment in their small apartment. Once in Enka Hills, they will be closer to family who can help with the other children while Svetlana does therapy exercises with her daughter.
Anton works as a truck driver. He currently drives during the week. He switched companies about seven months ago to assure he would return home each weekend. Svetlana takes care of the children.
The Alipas have visited Enka Hills many times and are excited by the possibility of calling the neighborhood home. Their house is sponsored by the 2009 Women Build.
