Kia and daughter

Shakia (Kia) Mills lives with her daughter and her current foster child in a 2-bedroom apartment.  A full-time AB-Tech Human Services student, Kia also finds time to work two jobs, provide therapeutic foster care, and participate in a number of church activities.  She is passionate about children and loves working with people.  When speaking to her, Kia’s face lights up when she discusses her career.  Kia is a Community Based Support Worker, providing individual care for persons with mental health issues and special needs.

Kia’s duplex has been riddled with problems, so she is excited to move to the Enka Hills neighborhood.  Kia is determined to create a good life for her daughter and puts her above everything else in her life.  She feels the same way about clients, which is why she went through the training to become a foster mother.

Habitat will be building a 3-bedroom house in order to enable her to continually take in children and allow her family adequate space.

Kia and her family will make a great addition to the Enka Hills Community.  Their home is being sponsored by the Children’s Home Society.
