Sheila Donahue and her eight year old daughter share a small one-bedroom garage apartment. There are problems with the heat source, leaking windows and poor insulation, so mother and daughter are forced to share a futon during the winter months to stay warm in the face in inadequate heat.
Sheila works for Buncombe County Schools. She is both a special education 1-on-1 worker and school bus driver for Haw CreekElementary School.Upon the urging of members of her church – St. John’s Episcopal – Sheila applied for Habitat’s homeownership program and was thrilled to learn that she was approved.
Sheila worked diligently throughout the application process and is excited at the prospect of providing her daughter with a safe, decent home in which to live, play and grow up.The Donahue family is looking for a real home and the security of knowing they don’t have to move again.
