PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This is one of two subdivisions in the west part of Buncombe County in which AAHH will be concentrating their building program over the next 4-5 years. The property on Woodland Drive will be home to 20 Habitat families when all houses are completed. This neighborhood of 2, 3, and 4 bedroom homes will be designed with an Arts and Crafts style to reflect other Asheville area neighborhoods. Allison-Ramsey Architects, William Withers, and the Women in Architecture group have all provided valuable input in helping Habitat develop this design.
All houses will have an interior layout that allows access for the physically challenged; exterior design will allow for minor retrofitting should a ramp for accessibility be required at a later date.
In cooperation with North Carolina Housing Finance Agency and Advanced Energy Corporation, all 20 houses will be built to Energy Star Home Certification. These sustainable building standards will not only ensure a material and energy efficient construction but also Advanced Energy will guarantee the heating and cooling energy usage for the house for the next two years.
