Volunteers are crucial to the operation of the ReStore! The ReStore generates funds to support Habitat's building programs, so help in the ReStore and you'll help families in need of safe and decent housing.

Volunteer opportunities include:

Building Supply Assistant: If you are knowledgeable of building supplies, we need your expertise! Help customers find and purchase the materials they need for a successful home renovation project! Weekly four-hour shifts available.

Register Operator: If you like working in a fast paced environment, love interacting with customers, and feel comfortable operating a cash register, this position is for you! Training is provided. Weekly four-hour and monthly Saturday shifts available. You can also train to be a substitute and we’ll call you if we need you.

Merchandise Handler: Skip the gym and get your work-out at the ReStore! This position is for volunteers who enjoy working with people and don’t mind heavy lifting. Bring in new merchandise to the showroom and assist customers load their purchases. Regular, occasional, or short-term volunteers are welcome in this position.

Book Store Assistant: If you love books and art and are willing to help with a variety of related tasks like alphabetizing, straightening, cleaning, and carrying boxes, volunteer in the book store! Register and non-register positions are available for weekly four-hour shifts.

Tuesday Evening Stock Volunteer (5:30-8:00 pm): Individuals with daytime commitments can still volunteer! Set up shop after hours by cleaning, decorating, organizing, and stocking for the following business day. Regular, occasional, or short-term volunteers are welcome in this position.

Donation Dock Assistant: Volunteers accept donations from drop-off donors and educate customers on what we accept and do not accept in order to maintain a high quality of sellable goods. Volunteers in this position should enjoy working with people and promoting Asheville Area Habitat. Weekly, four-hour shifts are available.

Testing & Repair Technician: Can you fix anything? Would you like to learn how? ReStore technicians test and repair (as appropriate) electrical items before they are placed on the showroom floor. We need you to make sure everything is in good working order. Regular four-hour shifts are available.

Interior Designer: Use your creative flair for a good cause!  Volunteers in this position use donated items to set up displays and vignettes. Cleaning, some heavy lifting, and an eye for merchandising required. Weekly four-hour shifts are available.

Half and full-day shifts are available Monday through Saturday.  It is best to commit to a specific shift and day per week.  We also have volunteers who work on an occasional basis or serve as substitutes.
