Obtain a pre-application in one of three ways:

- Call Byron Alday, Family Selection Coordinator, at 828-210-9370 to receive a pre-application by mail.
Once the pre-application is received, it will be processed and you will be contacted by mail.
The full applicant interview takes one hour and all applicants must be present (i.e. spouses). This interview is completed at the Habitat office.

The Family Selection Coordinator (FSC) will review and verify all documentation presented at the full application interview. Once verification is complete, the FSC will present the application to additional Habitat staff for review. FSC will present to applicant any additional questions/concerns posed by Staff and document their resolution.

If the applicant finds the Habitat model acceptable, the FSC will arrange a Home Visit. During the Home Visit, the application will be updated and Habitat will document any changes since the Site Visit.

Applicants who have been recommended to continue the application process will be asked to attend a Family Selection Committee meeting. All members of the family who are to reside in the Habitat home must be present. During the Committee meeting, applicant information will be updated and the Committee members will ask additional questions. The Committee will also discuss Habitat communities more in-depth and the applicant will be given an opportunity to ask any final questions.

The application, along with the Family Selection Committee recommendation, is presented to the Board of Directors for an up or down vote. If approved, the family will be notified by phone and the Partner Family process begins with an acceptance letter.
In accepting and rejecting applicants, Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity must conform to all aspects of the Fair Housing Act and all Fair Housing Laws, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Pricay Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as any local applicable laws as they apply to applications for a mortgage.
