Donation Guidelines

We accept donations of usable merchandise in good condition. The donated merchandise is resold to the general public through our Home Store with proceeds used to build new Habitat houses.  Donations may be claimed as a deductible contribution for tax purposes, please consult your tax advisor.  A guideline of accepted merchandise is listed below; please call our Home Store at (828)254-6706 with any questions.

ANTIQUES AND COLLECTABLES

• Furniture and housewares
• Art, books and other print media
• Jewelry, coins and stamps

APPLIANCES

• Must be in working condition
• Only white, black, almond or stainless steel
• Microwaves with turntables
• Digital wall ovens and drop-ins 

BABY ITEMS

• Cribs, strollers, swings, and baby furniture  must meet safety specifications
• No car seats
• No toys and/or games 

BUILDING SUPPLIES

• Concrete block – all sizes
• Vinyl siding – full boxes
• Shingles – full bundles
• Insulation – full rolls or bundles
• Nails and screws – full boxes

CABINETS

• Kitchen cabinets, countertops, and sinks – new and used
• Bathroom vanities and countertops – new and used
• Must have all doors and drawers

DOORS AND WINDOWS

• Interior – no hollow core luan
• Exterior
• Sliding glass doors must be thermal pane and have complete frames;  no aluminum colored
• Steel doors must have complete frames
• Shower doors must have complete frames and be free of caulking and mildew 
• Storm doors, no aluminum colored, must have complete frames
• Windows must be thermal pane and have complete frame 
• No storm windows 

ELECTRICAL SUPPLIES

• New or like new electrical fixtures and supplies
• Ceiling fans must be complete with all mounting hardware 
• No can lights
• Heat pumps and electric furnaces – only if under transferable warranty

ELECTRONICS

• No console stereos or televisions
• No computers or computer peripherals 

FLOORING

• Wood flooring – 40 square feet and greater
• New ceramic and vinyl tile and carpet squares – full cases only
• New vinyl sheet goods, 5X8 or larger
• New carpet – 5x8 or larger 
• Area rugs 

FURNITURE

• Upholstered furniture – good conditions – no tears, stains, or cat scratches
• Wood and metal furniture must be in good condition
• Sectional sofas – "like new" condition only
• Pianos – console or spinet

HARDWARE

• Interior and exterior lock sets with keys
• Tools – power, hand and garden tools

LUMBER

• Dimensional lumber – 6’ and longer
• Sheet goods – 4’ x 4’ and larger
• Sheet rock – 4' x 8' sheets and larger

PLUMBING

• Sinks – wall mounts must have brackets
• Low flush commodes
• Bathtubs – claw foot, fiberglass or solid surface
• Hot water heaters – 5 years old or less 
• New plumbing supplies

SPORTING GOODS

• Quality electric treadmills, stationary bicycles, weight machines, iron weights
• Camping equipment
• Bicycles
• General sporting goods

PLEASE NOTE
We cannot accept liquids of any kind (this includes paints, cleaning chemicals, kerosene, gasoline, pesticides or solvents)
No fuel cans
Barbeque grills with valve must have supply hose with threads on inside of connection
We can not accept computers or computer peripherals
